Privacy Policy

Short version: MechKeys does not collect, store, sell or share any of your data. Nothing you type ever leaves your browser.
What MechKeys does
MechKeys is a Chrome extension that plays mechanical keyboard sounds while you type on websites. All sounds are bundled inside the extension and played locally using the Web Audio API.
Keystrokes
To play a sound, the extension listens for key press and key release events on the pages you visit. It only uses the physical key position (for example, whether you pressed a letter or the space bar) to choose which sound to play and from which side of the stereo field. Your keystrokes and the text you type are never recorded, logged, stored or transmitted anywhere.
Data we store
MechKeys saves only your own settings, using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync:
- whether sounds are on or off
- the selected switch sound and volume
- the "text fields only" option
- the list of websites where you chose to mute sounds
These settings stay in your browser. If Chrome Sync is enabled, Chrome syncs them across your own devices through your Google account. The developer has no access to them.
Current site name
When you open the MechKeys popup, the extension reads the domain of the active tab (for example, github.com) only to show the "Sound on this site" toggle. It does not read page content, browsing history or any other tab information.
Network and third parties
MechKeys makes no network requests. It contains no analytics, tracking, advertising or remote code, and it does not sell or transfer any data to third parties.
